“Candy Cane Wonderland”
Watercolor on Paper, 18″ x 24″
Inspirations: Candy Canes, Watermelons, baking sugar cookies and funky cupcakes, “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Mele Kalikimaka” (the Hawaiian Christmas Song)

Watercolor on Paper, 8″ x12.5″
Inspirations: Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, which I’m currently reading….fireflies, Chinese temple art, weeping willows, and catching butterflies with my sister when I was a kid.
[This was originally developed for Illustration Friday's concept of "foggy"]

This one was done for Colleague magazine, illustrating a story about women in leadership roles in education. It was drawn out in pencil first, then digitally taken into Illustrator.

“Crown of Seeds” was created for Illustration Friday to illustrate the concept SEED. This organic crown formed of twigs and seeds has grown on the spot into a tightly structured headpiece that shapes and molds hair into a sculptural form. How tightly it constrains the hair’s movement is evident in the spillage that bursts out of the last unrestrained corner.

I finally got around to coloring this image that was drawn to illustrate the theme “primitive” for Illustration Friday. -G

“The Clumsy Ninja” illustrates the concept FAIL, from Illustration Friday.

This illustration was inspired by Illustration Friday’s topic: Save.
In the drawing, a mermaid shops at the upscale “Sea Bubble Boutique” for a land hat to wear out of water. Each “Sea Bubble” is filled with salt water, and accessorized with various sea creatures. I modeled some of the fish and critters after marine life I’ve seen while scuba diving. This illustration was a blast to do!
