This painting marks a return to abstraction. I suddenly had an urge to make a big change. Maybe this was partially inspired by a truly strange weekend filled with memories from the past (I went to my 10 year high school reunion and saw people I haven’t seen since I was a teenager!).

When I studied painting in college, I was completely infatuated by abstraction. Abstraction was my first love when it came to painting. I was intoxicated by textures and forms, and intrigued by the explorative and spontaneous nature of abstraction. I fell completely in love with sculpting and melting colors together, and connecting them with emotional energy.

Since then, I have been on a journey to conquer figuratism, along with all the trying aspects of painting that I had personally struggled with in the past. Now that I am quickly approaching my 100th painting since this January, and have roughly 250 paintings under my belt, I feel that a big chunk of those lessons have been learned. Massive production has been a great teacher to me. Therefore, it feels like the perfect time to give abstraction another dance. -G
